We operate a food pantry and provide emergency relief on Hatteras Island and neighboring communities.
- We’re a faith based all-volunteer charity with a 40+ year history of providing emergency relief on Hatteras Island and neighboring communities.
- We provide trained early responders for storms as well as long term recovery assistance.
- We partner with Dare County Social Services to provide ongoing emergency assistance with rent, utilities, medical/dental, transportation, and food when other options are not available.
- We have operated a food pantry continuously for over 30 years.
- We multiply the impact of donations with our volunteer’s labor, and a longstanding pledge that 100% of donations go to helping those in need.
- Our volunteer/members pay all operating costs such as food pantry utilities and maintenance, office-expense, tools, training etc.
- We provide these services in a sincere, compassionate, and trustworthy manor without stipulation or discrimination.

moonbeamCHUMM is a true gem and an asset to Hatteras Island. They have raised many homes since Hurricane Matthew – homes that would not be helped by FEMA but belong to local families and neighbors. They fill the gaps where others do not – with privacy and dignity. I have also worked with their ERT (disaster response) teams. No overhead and 100% volunteer. They are amazing.
