Platitudes of Gratitude

Heading toward Thanksgiving and the Giving Season, I can't help being cliché and listing some of the things for which I'm grateful:

• Kids who agree it makes sense to go out for ice cream on the way back from trick-or-treating.
• Parents who aren't exactly at 100% health, but who are still kicking and showing me how to squeeze the most out of life.
• Far-flung friends who treat me like family and entice me to travel a lot.
• A partner who gets me.
• A squad of generous do-gooders on the Internet who bring me a sense of purpose.

October 2021 winner Pea Island Preservation Society

At midnight on Halloween 🎃 we named Charitocracy OBX's 13th monthly winner! Congratulations to Pea Island Preservation Society, nominated by donor boldpath. They preserve the history of The Pea Island Life Saving Station and African American keeper Richard Etheridge. You can find their website here.

Happy birthday, Charitocracy OBX!

We've had a successful first year, supporting 12 wonderful causes, and now have plenty of nominees to choose from each month. (The more the merrier, of course, so feel free to nominate your favorite local nonprofit!)

Want to celebrate by pushing the monthly pot past $500? Consider inviting some new donors, and/or bumping up your own donation!

Also, if you know of any individual or business that would like to help boost our impact, by all means let's get those monthly grants up to $1000 and beyond! Every $1200 per year we receive means another $100 bump in our outgoing grant checks. And I'd be happy to maintain a prominent list of big ticket donors helping make that happen! As a business seeking opportunities to spread good will, why pick just one organization to support when you could let us pick twelve for you and really spread your good will around?! Yesterday we named Charitocracy OBX's 12th monthly winner! Congratulations to OBX Room in the Inn, nominated by donor Ltwood@yahoo.com. They organize shelter for the homeless in the Outer Banks, also providing hospitality, food, and support services. You can find their website here. You may recall they also won Charitocracy USA in summer 2020...

We have good news about August winner Feline Hope, right after this quick update...

100 OBX Donors!

As we celebrate the 5th birthday today for Charitocracy USA, I should also call out this big milestone for Charitocracy OBX. It's taken almost a year, but we now have over 100 donors! Compare that to the nearly 300 we have in Charitocracy USA, and you'll notice how our small community is growing nicely! Of course putting $1+ per month in both pots is the best of both worlds, and you can vote on where to send both grant checks each month! Consider tossing your hat in both rings (and/or super-sizing your hat?) to keep Charitocracy growing into our 6th year! Adjusting your donation amount is super easy.

August 2021 winner Feline Hope

Yesterday we named Charitocracy OBX's 11th monthly winner! Congratulations to Feline Hope, nominated by donor obxlisa. (That's two back-to-back winners from Lisa after Surfing for Autism's win last month!) They provide low cost spay and neuter clinics and medical assistance to Dare County residents to enable owners to keep their pets. You can find their website here. You may recall they also won Charitocracy USA way back in early 2017...
